Skiing in Alpe Lusia S. Pellegrino
If you’re looking for lots of slope options for your next skiing holiday, the Trevalli ski area in northern Italy should be high up your list.
As its name suggests, the region encompasses three valleys offering around 100 km of pistes altogether, and is part of the wider Val di Fassa ski area in the Dolomites - which means there’s even more skiing available just outside Alpe Lusia S. Pellegrino.
Overall, Alpe Lusia S. Pellegrino is most suited to beginner and intermediate skiers due to the high number of blue and red runs, but expert skiers are also well catered for thanks to the availability of black runs not just in Alpe Lusia S. Pellegrino, but also elsewhere in Val di Fassa and beyond in the wider Dolomiti Superski area, which has 1,200 km of skiing in total.
There are four main resorts within Alpe Lusia S. Pellegrino, each offering a different ski holiday experience. Soraga (1,202 m), thought to be one of the oldest settlements in the region, can be found on the slopes of the Valaccia and is particularly good for cross-country skiing on the Marcialonga slope.
Moena (1,184 m), often referred to as Trentino’s Alpine Pearl, is the main town in Val di Fassa and shares the Alpe Lusia ski area - 18 pistes equating to 25.5 km of skiing - with Soraga. Its also possible to enjoy the skiing in Val di Fiemme from here. The Alochet cross-country skiing centre offers 15 km of trails for all abilities and styles.
It’s worth looking out for the Marcialonga event that takes place each winter. Competitors in the event have to follow a 70 km trail from Moena to Cavalese via the Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa. Moena is also famous for its events, particularly its winter food and wine events.
Falcade (1,150 m) has 13 pistes totalling 39 km of slopes, which rises to more than 70 km when you include the runs at nearby Passo San Pellegrino (1,920 m). These runs go as high as 2,513 m, making for excellent snow and spectacular views. The Col Margherita cableway, which is made up of two cabins with 100 places, takes skiers up to the Falcade runs up to an altitude of 2,513 m.
Snowboarders can test their skills at the San Pellegrino Easy Snow Park, which has jumps for all skill levels, as well as a steel kink-box and a number of rails. Families are well catered for in Falcade thanks to its ski camps, baby clubs and tobogganing facilities, as well as a ski bus service to Moena.
