Skiing in Courmayeur
Courmayeur is on the Italian side of Mont Blanc and is the place to go if your idea of the perfect skiing holiday is a stay in a traditional alpine village with ample slopes for intermediate skiers. The total piste length is relatively short at 36 km (the rest of the 100 km it claims to have is off-piste), but this is likely to be adequate for a short ski break.
There are enough lifts to accommodate everyone’s needs and queues aren’t too bad, except during the busiest periods. There are two main skiing areas, Checrouit and Val Veny, although there are some smaller areas too. You can also get to the Vallée Blanche trail to Chamonix if you’re looking for some truly challenging skiing.
Due to the fact that there are fewer runs here than in many other resorts in the area, it’s worth planning trips out to other slopes if you plan to stay in Courmayeur for more than a few days.
The views from Courmayeur’s slopes are amazing - 14 peaks at least 4,000 m high are visible from the resort. Shops, bars and restaurants are plentiful, making for a lively apres-ski.
If you need to access more slopes, the Courmayeur lift pass also covers the Chamonix and Argentière ski areas.
