Skiing in San Martino di Castrozza - Passo Rolle

San Martino di Castrozza - Passo Rolle is the perfect destination if you’re looking for a ski holiday in a traditional Italian setting complete with gorgeous views of the Dolomites. The resort can be found in the Pale di San Martino group of mountains that are famed for the lovely pink colour they turn at sunset.

Skiers can get to the slopes - which make up the Carosello delle Malghe - by hopping on a bus for a short ride from the village. The three main ski areas are Rosetta, Tognola and Passo Rolle. Rosetta is around 2,609 m up and has 2 km of runs that are floodlit for night skiing.

Tognola is the highest area and its highlights include the Tognola Uno run, a wooded 3 km piste that offers plenty of variety and challenge for expert skiers, as well as the Cima Tognola, which is similarly varied.

Passo Rolle is a high mountain pass that features a particularly tricky black run called Paradiso. This run has several steep stretches, but rewards any discomfort with some amazing views.

The great thing about San Martino di Castrozza is that its high altitude means you can find good quality snow even at resort level, ensuring that there are skiing options to choose from even when you don’t want to travel too far on the lifts.

For cross-country skiers, there are 30 km of trails for both classic and skating-style trips. Look out for trails in Passo Cereda, Calaita, Imer and Canali, as well as near the village itself and in Passo Rolle.
