Did you know?

Skiing in Seefeld

Seefeld is perhaps best known for hosting events at three winter Olympic Games in 1964, 1976 and 2012 (Youth Games). It’s also a haven for skiers who prefer cross-country trails to more traditional downhill pistes - it has nearly six times as many cross-country runs as downhill ones, with both beginners and expert skiers well catered for.

Seefeld has several ski areas to choose from. Bergbahnen Rosshütte is the resort’s largest ski area and boasts a chairlift with heated seats that takes skiers to an altitude of 2,000 m. You can also make your own film of your run down the BMW SkiMovie pistes and download some useful stats about your performance!

Gschwandtkopf is a sizeable cross-country ski area situated at the foot of the Gschwandtkopf. It’s also the location of the Seekirchl chapel, which was built by Archduke Leopold V in the 17th century and is a popular attraction for sightseers.

Beginners and those with children will want to make their way to Geigenbühel - Birkenlift area with the aim of progressing to somewhere a little more challenging.

There are also several ‘special’ trails on offer, including floodlit runs that can be skied at night (downhill as well as cross-country skiing), an adaptive cross-country trail that can be enjoyed by wheelchair users and a run that was especially created to let dog owners take their pets skiing with them.

Other activities in Seefeld

Seefeld has around 142 km of gritted hiking trails that can be used in the winter. Mountain huts are on hand at regular intervals to provide somewhere to rest along the way. There are several curling and ice skating venues around the resort, while both artificial and natural toboggan runs can be found across Seefeld.

Other things you could do when you want to take a break from skiing include Nordic walking and running - the Finnenbahn woodchip trail is cleared each winter for use during the colder months - as well as swimming in Seefeld’s two indoor and two (heated!) outdoor pools.

You can also play tennis on one of Seefeld’s indoor courts, take your children horse riding (or get on a horse yourself) or check out the Human Eagle Air Academy for a spot of paragliding, which can be enjoyed by adults and children over the age of 4.

Want to do something a little less exhausting? There are many attractions to take in on a sightseeing tour of the Seefeld region, including the Peace Bell, which is the biggest bell in Tyrol at 2.5 m high and wide and can be found on the outer western hill of Mösern.
